Is In The Book Club free?
Yes. Tracking your books, setting reading goals, joining book clubs and buddy reads, building lists, and messaging other readers are all free. Importing your Goodreads library and scanning barcodes are free too. An optional subscription called BookClub Pro adds a reading insights dashboard, AI book recognition from a photo, extra themes, and removes ads.
Can I import my Goodreads library?
Yes, and it is free. Export your library from Goodreads as a CSV, then open In The Book Club and choose Import from Goodreads in Settings. Your shelves, ratings, reviews and read dates come across, and anything that cannot be matched is listed so nothing disappears silently.
Does it support half-star ratings?
Yes. You can rate a book in half stars, which Goodreads does not offer.
Can I mark a book as did not finish?
Yes. Books can be marked did-not-finish rather than being forced into read or unread, and you can record how far you got.
How much does BookClub Pro cost?
BookClub Pro is $9.99 per month or $49.99 per year in the United States. The free tier is fully usable without it - Pro adds reading insights, AI book recognition, extra themes, and an ad-free experience.
Is there an Android or web version?
Not yet. In The Book Club is currently an iPhone app. The web version is in progress and you can join the waitlist on this page to be told when it opens. Shared links open on the web today so anyone can view a book, list or profile without the app.
How do I add a book?
Three ways: search the catalogue by title or author, scan a book’s barcode with your camera, or import your whole library from a Goodreads CSV. Barcode scanning and importing are both free.
Can I read together with friends?
Yes. You can start or join a book club, run a buddy read with a shared schedule and progress, comment on what other people are reading, and follow readers whose taste you trust.
Are direct messages private?
Direct messages are encrypted at rest. They are readable by moderators only when a message is reported, and every such access is gated and audited.
Does the app show ads?
The free tier shows occasional ads between content. BookClub Pro removes them entirely.
